really good marketing and a well made original video. however they dont give much info like what wifi chipset they use -weather its software freedom friendly-.
Ah! Beat me to it, and easily at that. I'd intended to post about it, but then I got bogged down in printer woes... oh well, doesn't matter now.

They claim to be open source friendly.
I note the A13 retails for about $4, so potentially anyone can make a similar device.
Didn't order one though - $9 for the CPU and $20 for the shipping!!!
I emailed them to suggest they do rewards of x5, x10, x50, x100 packs of their $9 board because at those prices, they are perfect replacements for Arduino on more heavy handed jobs.

From their kickstarter page, it's:
- A realtek 2-in-1 Bluetooth 4.0 + WiFi b/g/n
Based on that, it's probably an rtl81xx. Yes, that's a big family and I don't know any better. But they all require non-free firmware. Bleh.
The page claims the wifi supports AP mode. Neat.

Did you expect anything else?

*Any* wifi chip supports AP mode. Or put in another way, a vendor needs to go out of their way to block it (some do, yeah).

oh right ok so its a 2in1 wifi and bluetooth IC. thanks muchly. shame about it being non-free firmware yuck.
Quite popular in recent months is RTL8732BS chip (BT4.0 + 802.11n combo). Take a look: https://github.com/hadess/rtl8723bs Some words about AP mode, no sign of non-free firmware?
