normally yes, but in this case there is a 4-port USB hub on the flying squirrel PCB. if that gets disconnected it fucks with the whole tablet.
you can also try rtlwifi driver it works, so maybe no need to use a Realtek's ugly one?

good tip arokux, found it. iwlist scan works great. have yet to get it to connect because duh usb networking takes priority and kills access to wicd-client.
i'll try to set up the spare USB port as a keyboard/mouse port, then i can actually log in at the LCD panel and play direct, woo!
