Another "new" ARM plateform

Hi everybody, first at all, Merry Christmas to all of you. what do you think about this "new" one? http://www.tbsdtv.com/launch/tbs-2910-matrix-arm-mini-pc.html driven by a Freescal MCIMX6Q5EYM10AC / Quad ARM Cortex-A9 at 1.0GHz and 10/100/1000 wired Ethernet, WIFI IEEE 802.11n/b/g + SATA the GPIO port looks a bit... little. [EOMA68] RFC and Review: SD/MMC and SPI added to specification

after some thought (and thank you for the comments), 1 SD/MMC and SPI interface have been added to the EOMA68 specification. as these pins are already brought out on the EOMA68-A20 CPU Card, there is no modification of the EOMA68-A20 CPU Card design required. only those people with the [first] A10 CPU Cards (of which there were only 5 made, and i have 2 here) would be affected. comments appreciated: http://elinux.org/Embedded_Open_Modular_Architecture/EOMA-68 l.

Help Taiwanese open-source GPS hardware a bit

Hello, Sorry for potential spam. There's a campaign at Indiegogo to develop a board with GPS MCU which would allow to run user programs alongside the GPS stack. It's unclear how open the GPS stack itself would be, but even if it will be a binary blob, it's still great progress comparing to current GPS chipsets. As an extra, MCU feature SPARC architecture, which alone worth to be present in every geek's personal computing museums. And early bird price starts at pretty low for 32bit "maker" scene figure of $15. "[EOMA68] RFC: ADDITION OF SD/MMC TO STANDARD."

i'm giving serious consideration, even at this late phase, to adding SD/MMC to EOMA68 by way of the GPIO pins as a multiplexing option. this would not have any impact on the EOMA68-A20 CPU Card: in fact, the only reason this can be considered at all is because the pins *happen* to be multiplexed as SD/MMC and GPIO *anyway*. this would also happen to give EOMA68 an SPI port as well. the idea came to me because it's something that's been forced on EOMA-26 due to the small number of pins (26) on EOMA-26. after looking at dozens of SoCs i don't think i've seen a single one these days which *only* has a [non-multiplexed] SD/MMC port. even if there was one that did (at an affordable price), a cross-bar buffer IC would take care of that. does anyone have any objections, and/or can think of any gotchas which would prevent SD/MMC from being added as a non-optional multiplexed option to EOMA-68? l.

They use eMMC to gain 4x speed, runs Xubuntu 13.10 already. The heat sink requirement probably makes it a non-starter for EOMA unless a flat heat pipe could be slipped into to somehow :)

Interesting chip the LPC1343

Hi, I ordered this FPGA dev system: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1575992013/logi-fpga-development-board-… [Already over subscribed by x5 and still 24 days to go :) ] I found it has a $2 LPC1343 ARM cortex chip which has within it which has USB MSD or MSC (Media Storage Device/Class) driver built into the ROM of the chip! Just connect the USB and it will open as an attached mass storage device, and then drag and drop files into it to program it! It doesn't need a programmer http://dangerousprototypes.com/docs/LPC_ARM_quick_start The IDE is by Code-Red which is Eclipse and it is available for Linux. NXP have bought them out recently and now 256k of code generated by it doesn't require a license. I can't find any more such chips from NXP. (The ones that are available with USB require software to be developed and programmed into the device that turns it into an MSD - which is great if you got the time.) May be this chip useful to add on to MEB or other bits of hardware to to add features such as programmable switch mode power supplies or extend general purpose IO - because it simplifies software development for those chips and their programming, and easier to update firmware once a project has shipped.

http://www.cs.tau.ac.il/~tromer/acoustic/ including from secure "Tempest" servers. i find this hilarious. they're using power-fluctuation analysis using either a physical contact with the machine (skin-contact with the metal case is enough but an earth point on the VGA or USB cable is better), or, my favourite, is listening for the distinctive sound made by inductor-capacitor feedback loops in the power circuits. apparently some mobile phone microphones are just about good enough to hear the 20khz+ whine: that's enough to determine the power consumption during the RSA key calculations, and that's good enough to get any private key. takes a hell of a long time, but that's ok :) all those "secure servers" out there? all you have to do is lease space to put in your own co-located server with an ultrasonic microphone and it's game over for neighbouring web server certificates. absolutely hilarious. sorry i just had to share this with someone. l.
